Orbicular Jasper (so called because of the unique circular designs produced by Rhyolite spheres contained in it) also known as Oceanic Jasper has a peculiar history. Since 1997 rare stones prospectors have been looking for it, since it was reported on an important mineralogical encyclopedia, but it was finally found only in 2000 in a single point of the northwestern coast of Madagascar, where it can be extracted only when it is low tyde (therefore it is also called “oceanic jasper”). Orbicular / Oceanic Jasper is a magnificent stone and belongs to the Jasper family, an opaque variety of Quartz highly appreciated for its unusual colors.
