Malachite is a copper mineral of the carbonate family, characterized by an emerald green color with light and dark streaks, due to the presence of copper. Its crystalline system is monoclinic, that is, it develops around a single axis and on a single plane of symmetry.
Malachite is connected to a large number of legends, mainly due to its symbolic link with female figures in various mythologies. In Egypt it was used to honor the goddess Hathor, in Europe for Freya and in Greece for Aphrodite. Many other properties have been attributed to this stone, such as the ability to stimulate the aesthetic sense, sensuality and beauty. Other legends say that malachite, thanks to its monoclinic crystalline system, creates a sphere of protection around the wearer and wards off negativity.
