The Fossil Wood is the result of trees that have become stone, in which all organic materials have been replaced with minerals (most often a silicate, such as quartz) while maintaining the original structure of the wood. To petrify, trees are naturally buried in an oxygen-free environment. Petrification can occur over the course of 5-10,000 years.
