Neptune, Roman divinity, God of waters and currents, later became, after 399 B.C. the God of the sea and earthquakes, transforming himself into the equivalent of the Greek God Posseidon. Our work Neptune, which bears a precious and clear shell carved from a block of rock crystal, is inspired by the classic representations of Neptune by the sculptor Giambologna (1529-1608), a Flemish sculptor active in particular in Florence and Bologna (see the beautiful Ocean Fountain inside the Boboli Gardens in Florence or the famous Fountain of Neptune in Piazza Maggiore in Bologna).
The Rock Crystal (or Hyaline Quartz) is the crystal par excellence and has always been considered a magic and therapeutic stone. Colorless, transparent, it is fascinating for its simplicity and elegance and for its ability to break down white light into the colors of the rainbow. In ancient times, rock crystal was also considered a stone with hypnotic and divinatory abilities, through the famous crystal ball.
