Carnelian is a very popular gem, today as in the past. For centuries it has been considered the stone that protected against negative energies and diseases. The legends tell that it was able to protect even from the plague. Carnelian is also a stone with profound religious and spiritual connotations: in the Bible the carnelian is mentioned as a decorative stone on the breastplate of Aaron and as one of the twelve precious stones that adorn the foundations of the city of Jerusalem. For Muslims, moreover, Carnelian is known as the “Stone of Mecca”, due to the carnelian seal ring worn by Muhammad.
